Syed Mustafa Siraj

সৈয়দ মুস্তাফা সিরাজ

Syed Mustafa Siraj was born on October 14, 1930. He wrote about 150 novels and 300 short stories. His literary career is deeply inspired by his mother who used to write poetry. His first short story, ‘Inti Pisi O Ghatbabu’ gave him the wings to fly as a writer. Later, he came up with much critically acclaimed pieces such as ‘Neel Gharer Nati’, Maati’, ‘Uro Pakhir Chhaya’, ‘Manusher Janma’, ‘Ranabhumi’, ‘Rakta Pratyasha’, etc. However, it was his novel, “Aleek Manush’ (Mythical Man) that took him to the pinnacle of success. The novel got translated into seven other Indian languages and he received the Sahitya Akademy Award for this. He is the creator of the famous detective character Colonel Niladri Sarkar that every reader is impressed by. He is also the recipient of the Bankim Puraskar and Ananda Puraskar. He died on September 4, 2012.
