The ‘poet of Muslim renaissance’, Farrukh Ahmad was born on June 10, 1918. His poems represent the spirit of new Muslims of Bengal promoting unity to get rid of the bondage of the British. Another crucial aspect of his poems is that they mark a shift from romanticism to modernism. His famous poem ‘Lash’ brought him immense success in his literary career which was based on the famine of 1944. Some of his notable works include ‘Satsagarer Majhi’, ‘Sirazam Munira’, ‘Naufel O Hatem’, ‘Muhurter Kavita’, ‘Habida Marur Kahini’, etc. He was awarded Bangla Academy Award in 1960, Adamjee Prize and UNESCO Prize in 1966 and Ekushey Padak in 1977. He passed away on October 19, 1974.
